SNOW DAYS by Addi

So on December 16th & 17th we had snow days. I really wanted us to have
school on the 17th because we have a lot of work that needs to be done. Also
we need to practice for our game thursday we really need a win. I also hate how
our teachers have to push everything back because some of the assignments
can push up my grades. I think we could of had school yesterday and I know
the back roads were bad but it's not like the whole town was trash. There’s just
so much we needed to do our project in math, our test in social studies, and our
fables in ELA. So long story short, there is a lot of work we need to before
Christmas break.

VR by Regan

Recently I was able to use virtual reality goggles during school, one of the best things about
it was that all I needed was my phone and some free time. Located in the learning commons are
virtual reality goggles available for anyone to use. If you have all of your work done in a class and
you have enough time you can come to the learning commons with your
phone and Ms.Travis can show you how to use the goggles. A brief review of how to use the
goggles is go to youtube and search for virtual reality and what kind of VR you want to experience,
such as virtual reality under the sea. Next, open the goggles and center your phone onto the goggles
so you see the video correctly, close the clasp over your phone to make sure that it won’t fall out.
My personal experience was so unreal. I did 2 different VR videos, one was a haunted house and
one was under the sea. The under the sea one was the one that felt very unreal, it was also 3-D so
if you moved your head you could see what else was around you. I personally liked the haunted house
one even though I don't like scary things, I liked this one because it makes you jump. Thank you for
reading about the Learning Commons VR goggles and consider coming in some time to experience
what it is like for yourself!

One of my favorite books as a kid was A Wrinkle in Time . The reason I liked was the sense
of serialism the book offered and it lets you make the story your own with the wild imagery it puts
in your head . Also I loved the characters and the world it builds throughout the story . It’s just a lot
of fun, so I recommend you give this book a read .

A book I would like to recommend to everyone is the book called
“restart” this book is by Gordon Korman. If you would like to read this book, you can find
the book in the realistic fiction book shelves located near the back left of the learning
commons.
I recommend this book because it has a lot of surprises that you wouldn’t believe
would happen. In this book a boy named Chase fell off of his roof and lost his memory.
He didn’t even remember his own name. When he walks to school people seemed to be
scared of him. He spent his school what trying to figure out why everyone is scared of him
and angry at him. I would recommend this book if you like surprises and mystery that
makes you feel like you are the book.

The book I chose to recommend this quarter is Firelight. This book has a
series, and is located in the Fantasy section. Firelight starts with a girl and her friend alone in a forest.
They transform into dragon-like creatures, called draki, and fly around. They are almost caught by
hunters and the friend runs away. The girl gets trapped in a cave and is caught by a boy. But he
doesn’t bring her anywhere. He leaves her alone in that cave. Throughout the story, she encounters
many different people who are very important. In the end? You’ll have to read it yourself. I would rate
this book five out of five stars because I was so interested in it. It keeps you on the edge of your seat
the whole time. Find this book in the Fantasy section along with its other books.

Stolen Children by Peg Kehret

This book is one of my favorite books. Mrs. Weber
read it to our 4th grade class. This book is a combination
of suspense and mystery. It always has you guessing. It
is about a girl who goes missing and the kidnappers ask
for a ransom. Little do they know, people they knew helped
with the kidnapping. Will they get their daughter back?
Find this book in mystery section to find out!

Book Recommendation by Mia

I picked this book because it has
other books with it because it a
“Series” of unfortunate events. This
book is about “The Bad Beginning
is the first novel of the of A Series
of Unfortunate Events by Lemony
Snicket. The novel tells the story of
three children, Violet, Klaus, and
Sunny Baudelaire, who become
orphans following a fire and are sent
to live with Count Olaf, who attempts
to steal their inheritance.” If you don’t
know what inheritance means then
inheritance means like someone is
trying to take your identity because
you might have a lot of money or
something.

Interview
By: Lundyn
I think the idea of interviews of teachers are super cool, and we get to learn about the
teachers in our school. Sydnie Speckman did an interview with Ms.P and I had no idea
she had been working for that many years. When we are done and you share it with
your friends then only your friends know. But what is awesome is when our interviews
are done ms.Travis post it on the page to share with anyone who is following that page,
and they get to learn new stuff about their kids teachers. I love this idea and I hope we
will continue this program next year.

Skeleton Creek
A book recommendations that I have is Skeleton Creek because it
is a really good book. This book is also really good if you like scary
books or mystery books. They have a series of books and there’s a
total of 5 books and right now I’ve only read the first one and I’m
starting to read the second one called ghost in the machine. I like this
book because it’s about two teens Ryan and Sarah who are investigating
this mysterious dredge at their hometown and while they do that Ryan
breaks his leg and their parents have forbidden Ryan and Sarah to talk
to each other. They investigate what they found at the dredge while
secretly emailing each other and secretly meeting up. It leaves you on
a cliff hanger so you’ll want to read the next book. Ryan writes all of his
information in his notebook while Sarah video tapes all of it and post it
on her website and the books includes the website you have to go to
and a password so that you can watch the videos to. This is why I
think Skeleton Creek is a good book.

Gobble Grams by Lacy

I like gobble grams and I think they are a good thing to have because
they give thanks to your friends. They also tell them why your thankful
for them and how much. The gobble grams also aren’t that expensive
they are only 25 cents. Gobble grams can also brighten up someone’s
day and it helps raise money for our school. This is why I like gobble grams
and think they are a good idea.

Teachers by Mia

I think teachers are the smartest people in school, not
just they have an answer sheet it's because did the work
for the answer sheet. So if you ever say “ TeAcHeRs OnLy
GeT tHe AnSwEr RiGhT BeCaUsE tHeY HaVe An
AnSwEr ShEeT” well your wrong. I mean this is all in
my opinion. You can think whatever you want about
teachers. Some people might not like all the teachers on
their team I mean whatever team your on. ( Kraken,
Hippogriff, Dragons, Thunderbirds, Phoenix, and Gargoyles.)
I liked my teachers in 6th grade, because I was on team
Kraken last year.

My book recommendation is Faceless by Alyssa Sheinmel. It is a realistic fiction novel about
a girl named Maisie whose passion is running. One day when she was out on a run, it started
storming. Lighting struck a tree next to her which caused the tree to catch on fire and the fire
spread to her body. When she woke up, she was lying in a hospital bed trying to figure out what
happened to her. She had a burn on her side, her hand, and worst of all, her face. The doctors
offer her a face transplant and she accepts. When she sees her “new face”, she doesn’t feel like
herself. When she gets out of the hospital, she has to deal with bullies, her family, her best friend,
Selena, her boyfriend, Chirag, and trying to love herself. You can find this book at the Excelsior
Springs Mid-Continent Library.

Harry Potter by Emma

      Harry Potter
                                  Book recommendation

because its about a boy who didn’t have a great life living with his
aunt and uncle and cousin they treated him different because his
parents were a witch and wizard. But Harry didn’t know that until he
got a letter from Hogwarts wizardry school, and then his life completely
changed he didn’t have his family bossing him around anymore he
had a real bed and not living under a staircase anymore. But on the
way he finds out the guy who killed his parents. Harry ends up coming
across that guy during his stay at Hogwarts.

Book Fair by Braedyn

11/08:
The book fair will be from December 2nd to December 13th.  The profit made from the book fair will
go towards buying more books for the classrooms.  The theme of the bookfair is, and the winner is.

We are trying to decorate towards the theme by making gold trophies with books coming out of it.
We are trying to make gold medals, and ribbons. We’re thinking about other stuff as well like ribbon
cutting and voting.

So I made the basketball team, and I’m super proud of myself for it!! I
worked really hard for this. Basketball practices have been going well.
We have done many drills and a lot of running. We have learned a lot of
plays like our defensive play “blue”, which is a 2 3 zone, and our offensive
play “california”, and this friday is meet the tiger night, where we mix together
and scrimmage each other for 15 minuets. Then we have a parent meeting
afterward. Our first game is November 25 in Warrensburg. Our Team does
a great job of being there for each other and picking each other up when we
make a mistake. What perkins tells us most is “we are a team, not a 7th grade
team and an 8th grade team, we just play that way!” we have really good
coaches as well. If your a 6th grader this year, I suggest trying out for a sport
in 7th & 8th grade, it will keep you in shape, and keep you out of trouble. A little
tip if you are wanting to play sports, keep your grades up to date and good.
They will tell you all the time that you are a student athlete, and student comes
before athlete for a reason.

Book Recommendation Dragonhaven
Today the book I recommend is Dragonhaven by Robin McKinley. This book follows the story of a 15-year
old boy who discovers a dying mother dragon and her one surviving dragonet. Jake lives at Smokehill National
Park, a park set up to protect dragons. Sightings of dragons are pretty rare though. But when Jake embarks on
his first alone overnight stay in the park, he finds a dying mother dragon with her dead newborn dragonets &
a dead poacher. He is shocked to find out one of the dragonets is still alive & decided to rescue it. But beyond
hurting or killing a dragon, saving a dragon is even more illegal. Jake must somehow raise the dragonet &
reintroduce it to the wild without being caught by the authorities. Will he succeed? Will the young dragon
survive? Find out more in Dragonhaven by Robin McKinley! By Caroline
