Sea Facts for Trivia Night



INTERESTING…

The oldest things alive were tiny microbes at the bottom of the ocean. They were found in 2012 and dated back to the Jurassic era with dinosaurs. They have been alive for 86 million years, and are still living.







There are a number of lost cities in the ocean, some are said to be the lost city of Atlantis.

The Kraken, many different bodies are found by fisherman and other seamen prove the existence of this legend.  Also in 2012 Discovery Channel's “Chasing Giants: On the Trail of the Giant Squid” actual footage was taken of live giant squid.

Small rivers and lakes can be found with banks, trees, leaves, and waves. (Under the water)

The Baltic Sea disc is an unusual object in the ocean near Sweden. We don’t know what it is and won’t know until May when they can explore it but it looks like the Millennium Falcon from Star Wars.



Lake Michigan got its own Stonehenge and the bottom of Lake Michigan Bay. One of the stones seems to have a picture of a mastodon.











Yonaguni Rock Formation Japan is a large rock formation under water that is over 20,000,000 years old and looks irregular. It is debated whether natural modified or man-made.









Some prehistoric fish: Hagfish have been around for 300 million years! They have 2 brains, no spine, and to fight of predators produce a slime to damage gills. It eats the dead bodies of other sea life.  









Sturgeon is from the dinosaurs. It is known as one of the main sources of caviar and is 6 meters long. They have killed and injured people by jumping into boats.  









The Coelacanth is very famous. They were supposed to be “extinct in the Cretaceous period, along with the dinosaurs”, but have been seen and photographed all around. They taste really bad though so if you find one don’t eat it.







The oldest fish in the world was a rock fish that was 200 years old. It was caught by Henry Liebman. This fish predates the 1867 purchase of Alaska from Russia.
