Zachary P. to ESMS:
The Scholastic Book Fair is coming soon, and I’m so excited! It’s being held Dec. 5-13 at 7am-3pm in the ESMS Media Center.  I CAN’T WAIT! There are going to be many new books there! And I’ll be able to help out with the Book Fair with the Book Crew.  I’m REALLY excited about that! I LOVE to help out when needed, or just in general, and it’ll be a HUGE help if all of the Book Crew will help out, so I will too.  I’m starting to wonder what kinds of books will be there.
I know there are Fiction, Non-Fiction, Adventure, Paranormal, Horror, and Mystery books, but I still wonder what other books will be there.  There will be a lot of books, bookmarks, and other things as well, but I’m mainly interested in the books! I believe that anyone who doesn’t like books is a disgrace toward authors, literature, imagination, history, and knowledge.  And that they need to find a good book to read.
The Scholastic Book Fair Book Crew is willing to do their best to help make the Scholastic Book Fair Reading Wonderland a HUGE success.  So if the Book Crew is going to do their best to do your part, do your best to do your part, and get some books from the Book Fair and read!

I just hope I’ll be able to buy some books at the Book Fair this year…………………………………………….

ESMS Book Fair!

The ESMS Book Fair is coming in a few weeks. It will be in town from December 5th thru the 13th in the ESMS Media Center.  We are entered in a contest, which could win our school an opportunity to meet an author. The theme will be Reading Wonderland for Christmas and the ESMS Book Fair Crew will be decorating and preparing for the book fair. The book fair is a great opportunity to explore new books.  If people want to buy their teachers a gift, a great one would be a book off of their wish list.
Being in the 21st century communication and collaboration class I have explored many new types of technology and other ways to promote the book fair. The book fair is important because it can help many people find new books to read and help our school as well. Please come and explore our reading wonderland at the ESMS Media Center

The Scholastic Book Fair

The Scholastic Book Fair
Here at Excelsior Springs Middle School, we hold a book fair! The dates this year are December 5th through the 13th from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. There are many books, and tons of posters, bookmarks, so the book fair is still a place for you and your family to come and enjoy yourselves. This year we are also donating to an organization for the children in Excelsior Springs who may not get a Christmas, we will use that money to buy books for those kids. Every penny counts! To the kids here at ESMS, if you come with a parent or a grandparent and look around for at least five minutes, you get a free donut. Come to the book fair and help support our community! We appreciate everything; we hope to see you soon!

ESMS Sports

ESMS SPORTS

When you think about sports, you think about high school, college, and professional leagues, but you never think about middle school sports. That’s probably because middle school only offers boy’s football, girl’s volleyball, boys and girl’s basketball, boy’s wrestling, coed cross country, and coed track.
There are a lot of athletes here at ESMS, and some of the sports that they might play aren’t offered. It disappoints some, and excites others that their sports is or isn’t offered. That’s why, in my opinion, there should be more sports offered.
High schools and colleges have mostly the same offered sports like cheerleading, football, dance team, basketball, wrestling, baseball, softball, golf, track and field, and tennis. If you are ever interested in doing one of these sports, then the best way to get a head start is in middle school, but there is one problem, some of these aren’t offered at your middle school.
If we should ever want to join a sport in high school or college, then the middle school should offer it. That is why I think we should be offered the same sports in middle school as in high school.

8th Grade Sports

8th grade sports

As an 8th grader I start to wonder why we don’t have many sports to choose from. I do think that we deserve to have many more sport options other than volleyball, basketball, and football. Many are not interested in those sports leaving those students inactive. I do understand that it can be expensive, but you could require each player to pay for things such as jerseys. I really think that we should have an 8th grade cheerleading, soccer, softball and baseball team. I think that would prepare student for the high school teams and make our teams a lot better with more productive and experienced players. I know that this will make players better because I play competitive softball throughout fall, spring, and summer, and we start practicing towards the end of winter. So I know the more you play the more they learn about the sport but for the other players that don’t get to play that much it could really affect our team’s playing abilities.  Things like this could help students behave better and also have more things to put on their college applications. Colleges scout for players from around 8th-12th grade. I know this because there our almost always scouts at my softball tournaments taking notes on our players abilities, attitude, and whether they listen to their coaches or not.  This could help the people that can’t afford to pay for college because they could get a scholarship to college because of their abilities.
