World Languages Class

World Languages Jewelya Griffey

I am taking a course that is called World Languages. We get on Rosetta Stone and take a course on our language. I am learning Italian. It is a computer based class, and self-learning. It teaches you simple words, and as you go along they get more complicated, and you eventually start learning sentences.
It is a lot of fun. I am on unit 2, which is greetings. I am learning how to say hello in a bunch of different ways. I am also learning objects. I would recommend this class to people.

iPads

Wesley Thompson’s Blog
The idea of giving each student their own device is good, but I think that there are some flaws in the way that we are doing it at our school. For example, I believe that if the school is going to pay for an iPad they may as well get all of the students a laptop. A laptop is much more school compatible because it has Microsoft Office. Also, a laptop has USB ports so students can print off their work and put their documents on a flash drive.
Most of the seventh and eighth grade students would agree that is slightly unfair for sixth grade students to be the only ones to get the benefits of having their own devices for school. Most of the older students who do work on the computers in school would benefit more from the devices than the sixth grade students who primarily use them only to complete assignments online. For example, my design and modeling class allows us to use the same website we use in class to turn in assignments and finish them at home. I think that the school should have waited until they could give all middle and high school students devices.

Technology

I think that we should be able to use our phones in school. We should be able to because we can research things on them and find information. Also I think it would be good for an influence so that way we will get work done then we can play on our phones. Even though next year we will get iPads we should still have phone usage.
In high school they get to have out there phones. Sometimes only certain teachers will let them have them. The kids always have to get there work done then they can play games or do whatever they just can’t be looking at inappropriate things. If we got to have our phones it would make school more fun and more people would want to come.

Running Intramural

Running Intermural
By: Topanga
Mrs. Pennington started a running intermural and a lot of people have been participating. At least 40 people have participated, probably more. She started it the first week of February on the 2nd. The intermural is to help us get in shape for actual track season. And all grades are welcome to come.
We’ve ran a lot within the past two days, close to two and a half each day. And we’ve ran about 5 just within that amount of time. The intermural is after school and it goes until four. I think we’re going to have a good turnout for track this year just by the looks of the running intermural.

Nurse Visits

Nurse
By: Isabelle Sears.
I believe that if students need to go to the nurse it needs to be a legit reason, you need to either go because you need medicine, your bleeding, or you’re throwing up with a fever. If you are just going to the nurse just because you want to get out of class or just to go up there to get a mint, you need think that you’re wasting your class time when you know that she will not give you one because she can only give you one if you have to have it for illness reasons.
Students also just go up to the nurse for fun because they are getting out of class and because they either meet up with their friends or because it gets them out of class. I believe that the teachers need to take better notice with the students going to the nurse. If it’s a little cut and they need a Band-Aid the teacher can just give them one instead of having the students wandering the halls and them bothering Mrs. Haddock.

Lunch

Lunch
By: Makayla Krier
I strongly believe that students should get more time at lunch. By the time all of the students get through the lunch line, they only have about ten minutes to eat which obviously isn’t enough time. Most of the time, students end up wasting most of their food because they don’t have enough time to eat all of  it which leaves them hungry. Plus, most students bring food to eat during class. If they had enough time to actually eat all of their lunch, then they wouldn’t be hungry later.
Students also need to have enough time to socialize. It’s hard to talk and eat at the same time when you only have about ten minutes to actually eat. If they got a longer lunch time, they would be able to talk and they would get all of their energy out which would help prevent them from talking during class. So if you think about it, having a longer lunch would actually benefit students.
