Third quarter by Brody

The third quarter of techsperts was one of the funnest quarter of school I’ve
ever had. I enjoy learning about technology that I have never experienced. I enjoy helping Ms.Travis with her various needs from day to day, Whether that be organizing books or finding ipads. Soon enough I was drawing dragon eyes on clay tablets and practicing tornados drill.

Besides techsperts, school has been a roller coaster of emotions, sometimes,
it is fun, other times annoyingly frustrating. In math,we are having independent work and it is some of the funnest times in math I have. In social studies, my grades are lower than other ones, causing it to be tedious and other times frustrating. Overall school has been pretty fun and I’m enjoying it more than I ever have before.

Hello again! Ok so there is still a book fair coming up in April. It’ll last through April 20th to April 27thh. Everything has been good so far. We’ve had a few drills lately. Um I really can’t think of much right now.
6th grade has recently been writing their own personal narratives.  They’ve also been learning about area, volume, and surface area. 6th graders also just finished up comparing and contrast two ancient religions, Buddhism and Hinduism. Last but not least 6th grade has started on their zoo unit.
Don’t know much about what 7th graders and 8th graders are doing. Actually nothing at all. Just a bunch of learning and homework I guess. I don’t know so I can’t update you guys about that. Well that's all I guess. Bye.

Hello again!!! School has been very busy the past month or so. In eighth grade they are still getting ready for high school!! And that’s good because the school year is almost over. In seventh grade they’re thinking about becoming web leaders for next year. That way they can help the sixth graders that are coming into the middle school next year. Sixth graders are finishing up writing their personal narratives. They should all be very proud because that takes a long time to write.
Don’t forget, in April is the BOGO book fair. Sixth graders are taking a trip over to the zoo on May 22nd because they are trying to help the animals that are endangered repopulate. Girls on the Run has started and there will eventually be a 5k run. LIT club is going on right now. And last but not least Science Olympiad and Math Club has ended. See you next time!!!!

Breakout Boxes by Nolan and Dalton

Breakout Boxes

What is a breakout box? According to USA Today, “At its simplest, Breakout
EDU takes the appeal of the “escape room,” a recreational team sport in which a group of people use their wits to break out of a locked room, and turns it inside out. Instead of a locked room, teams must figure out how to get inside a tightly locked box.”

From a student perspective, It was so much fun and the engagement levels
were off the charts. From a teaching perspective, this activity is so adaptable. It is easily differentiated for classrooms by just making a copy of the Google Form and changing the rigor of the problems to meet the needs of your students. The possibilities are endless when it comes to how you can use a Google Form to create an amazingly interactive task. I cannot more highly recommend this idea! I really think it would work for any age or subject area

This week by Grace

This week we have been working on our “mark” project. We have been taking pictures of all of the grades for our “mark” project. Also, we have been painting our ”mark” project, we are painting them black and yellow. These projects will be going in between the vents on the walls. That is one thing we have been doing.

Another thing we have been doing is Shelving books and finding the books that are the same but in different categories to fix them. When we shelf books we take them off the cart, look at the sticker color, go to that section, and find where it goes. Sometimes we will have more than one book but they will be in different categories, so then we have to fix one of the books so they are in the correct spots. Those are the other two things we have been doing this week.

WEB Leader Expectations by Kyra

How To Have A Better Chance Of Being A Web Leader

As the end of the year draws nearer and nearer new web leaders are being chosen. Mrs. Travis expects around 50 to 80 people applying. Considering that the 7th grade consist of around 200 people, you need a chance to stand out. Here are some ways to have a better chance of being a web leader.

  1. Get good grades: The most obvious is to get good grades. But it's less about the actual grade and more about your effort. If you get a bad grade try reassess, as this shows you have responsibility and care about how you do in school.
  2. Attendance: Attendence can show how much you value school. And when you are a Web Leader, you have to be at school for your kids and for your partner so they don’t have to shoulder all the work.
  3. Extra curricular activities: Mrs. Travis is looking for people who stand out and have many interest to allow kids to relate to their mentors. It also show you can balance an activity and school. It doesn't matter if the activity is out of school such as a competitive sport or volunteer work. It can also be programs in school like band or robotics. Anything to make you stand out as an individual.
  4. Behavior: Teachers aren’t going to nominate a student who doesn’t follow directions or gets sent out. This doesn't let incoming students know the expectations, and it sends the wrong message students about how they should behave.
  5. Your Essay: While the writing piece of the application isn’t that long, it can still have an effect on how the Web Representatives view you. They aren’t looking for grammar and spelling errors, but rather what you write. In your essay you should include why you want to be a Web Leader in the first place. Include your extracurricular activities in you essay.
Being Respectful and Trustworthy:  If you can’t be trusted to be alone in class your chances of being a web leader are pretty slim.If you treat teachers, students, and property with respect you already have a head start of being a Web Leader. Teachers are looking for someone they can trust to be unsupervised and still do the right th

Here in techsperts we have been doing some cool and fun stuff. But the main thing is putting away book and finding books. It is actually a lot funner than you think. But another thing we're doing is painting and you can see it because it is behind were ms travice sits and in the back room. And it is a awesome gray. But we are getting close to the end of school and I think that kids will be really happy with that. But also kindness week is coming up and I really hope people will be kind for everyone here.

Soon we will be having another book fair. And the theme is technology! With robots and ipads it should be a blast. But soon we will be having advertisements up soon which will tell you the dates. And we should have games and fun activities. So come down to the book fair and have some awesome fun.

ESMS by Chance

In ESMS, I’m looking forward to signing up to being a Web Leader. Yesterday, March 7th, we had a presentation from Ms. Travis about what Web is all about. Web is something I have wanted to do since 6th grade. I think Web is a really good thing for kids starting 6th grade because middle school can be a very scary thing for some kids.

Ms. Travis told us that one year a kid said they felt alone and didn’t think they had friends. She told her Web Leaders to help the student, and nothing else. They helped the student and were friends with the student. I thought that was a very nice thing to do. As a student soon to be in 8th grade, that gave me something to look forward to. Going into a new grade can be very scary thing. I feel that if I make it into Web it’ll be easier for me to settle into 8th grade.

Dear Blog by Ryley

Dear blog,
Lately in techsperts we have been doing a lot of teamwork. We have been working together as a team to complete separate and group ( leave you mark projects ). We have also been working on tiles to put up above the fantasy section to attract more people towards FANTASY! My tile is a fairy ( as weird as it sounds ) trying to find light to stay alive, there are many other really cool tiles that other techsperts have made like, wizards, dragons, aliens, robots, etc. Once we are done making the design we go to the art room and paint our tiles so they are not all tan or blank.

Us techsperts and especially Miss. Travis want more people to be able to come here to the library when they have nothing to do, and we want them to have fun and be comfortable. People can come to the book fair that is coming up and or  work quietly, they can do virtual reality goggles and experience tour you may never go on, you can play with the spheros and learn how to control them, or you can try and break out of our breakout game, and we even have board games. We also want techsperts to be able to work comfortably and be able to get work done quietly. The third hour techsperts are making a project in the back room to make it feel more at home and to make a comfortable place for techsperts to work

Techspert by Morgan

In this class we sre working on a project to show of all of the students hard work. We hot glued batting on the boards and now we are going to cut the fabric and fit it to the board. Them we are going to hot glue and staple the fabric to the board. We also drew fantasy pictures on our tiles. We also painted them and they are going into the kiln.

I am very excited to put the boards on the wall and get the pictures put up. I am also excited to finish our tiles and put them on the wall. I can't wait for us to remodel the learning commons into a new space.

3rd Quarter Techsperts by Jacey

This quarter in techsperts, we are working on a leave your mark project. We are making a sort of memo board for the learning commons. We are taking large boards and putting padding on them so we can put pictrues of kids caught reading. We also made tiles with fantasy things on them, so we could make a mural above the fantasy section in the learning commons. So mine was a Harry Potter theme.

I also enjoy the task of checking out books. I am excited for the next book fair. We also worked on taking photos for the year book. I hope to end this year with a bang, making the learning commons a better place. But im sure going to miss the learning commons.

Quarter 3 is ending by Breanna

As quarter 3 comes to an end we start to realize that we only have a couple months left of school. So me and my group are leaving our mark on the learning commons. Our mark is going to be memo bored. We as eighth grader want to really leave our mark so we also created tiles that we will hang above the fantasy section. On my tile I created a castle this describes fantasy to me because a lot of the books are very magical. We love making the learning commons a new space

Blog by Macey

The past week we have been working on our Leave Your Mark Project. My second hour tech spert class is working on a project to put around the doors of the learning commons. It is going to be a place so we can post pictures of the students around the school. Mrs. Travis is asking us to create a fantasy tile so we can create a collage above the fantasy section. I am really looking forword to our tiles coming out of kiln and seeing all of our prjects being finished.

Leaving our mark by Myranda

In techsperts we have been doing our leave your mark project. For this project we are making a memo baord. We got a big piece of thin wood, and super glued cotton to it. After that we are going to put black fabric on it and put pictures up. This way Mrs. Travis and all of the techsperts can see all of the great things that happen at ESMS.

Mrs. Travis also asked us to design and paint a tile that goes with fantasy books. They are going to get hung up above the fantasy book section. My tile is an underwater scene. It has a mermaid tale, a crown, a jellyfish and coral. It is getting twards the end of the year and were are making the learning commons look more creative and fun before we leave. I am looking forward to the next couple of months in techsperts.

Techpserts by Mallory

The past couple weeks in techsperts we have been working on multiple projects to help better the learning commons. One of our more creative projects is our ceramic tiles. We took some ceramic tiles and created a fantasy design. My design is a unicorn horn with a rainbow background. After we paint them we will fire them in the kiln. Once they are completely dry we will hang them above the fantasy book shelf.

Another project that we have been working on is our leave our mark project. Our project is making a collage of pictures on a wall. So far we have hot glued the fluff on the board. We have also been taking pictures of students working. These pictures will be used to decorate our board and to be put in the yearbook. I am looking forward to my last quarter in middle school as a techsperts.
