Blog Week 2 by Regan

Blog: Week 2
For my career when I get older I want to be an author and turn my books into movies.
I just love writing freely and I love that people would get to read my writing all over the world.
I want to write books for all ages from picture books for little kids to chapter books for older
kids and possibly adults. I think that fantasy chapter books will be my main focus because
of how much I love Harry Potter. I hope you liked my weekly blog, thank you for reading!

Blog Wek 1 by Regan

Blog: Week 1
My name is Regan and I am 1 of the 3 first semester techsperts at the middle school.
So far I love the middle school, all of my teachers are super nice. The first few days have
been more chaotic than at elementary school, the most chaotic parts of the day are at the
beginning and end of the day because everyone is in the halls. Everyone is getting used to
their schedule so switching between classes is getting easier.

My favorite class of the day is techsperts which is my 7th hour class. In techsperts I get to help
Mrs.Travis around the library, do my weekly classwork for techsperts on the computer, and work
on different projects for techsperts that include art. I hope that you liked my blog, thank you for reading.

First Blog by WIlla

It has only been my second day of school, but there is one thing that has completely changed
since elementary school, other than switching classes, and getting lockers. School lunches, are
amazing. Middle school lunches have completely changed my mindset on school lunches. In
elementary school we had two lunch options, and a side bar. I used to eat the school lunches
close to everyday when I was in the younger grades of elementary school. We had nachos, chicken
patties, hamburgers, salads, and tons of fruits from the side bars. “It is good for school lunches”,
some would say. What is that supposed to mean? Are restaurants superior to school lunches?
I have never felt strongly about school lunches, it has never been a topic of research for me, since
I have not had any other schools to compare our school lunch too. I personally like our school lunches,
and thought they were good. I haven’t ate school lunch since third grade, I just got tired of the same
things every week, and the same sides everyday. Then, rumors flew around the fifth grade lunch tables.
“My brother said that middle school has ice cream”
“I heard that you get to have chips, and juices at lunch in Middle school”
I heard it over and over again, but never believed it.On August 15th, 2019, I found out the truth.
It was the first day of school and the cafeteria was filled with newly hungry fifth graders. The
lunchroom didn’t have much of a smell when we walked in, but I still imagined the lunch food
being normal, and there was no ice cream of chips at all. Boy, was I wrong. There is ice
cream, rows of chips, sparkling waters, apple juice, and dozens of scrumptious sides. The
entrees are unexplainable though. Every day of the school week, there are six different lunch
options to choose from. Today was the yummiest sounding pizza I have ever heard of,
buffalo chicken pizza. On Monday, I’m going to eat school lunch for the first time in three years.

8th Grade by Jaylenn

As an 8th grader an option we have is to be a W.E.B. Leader. About
50 kids made W.E.B. About 10 days before school started we came to the
school and trained for W.E.B. We tried two different activities that we used
on the first day of W.E.B. We had a little break in between. And then as a group
we just talked about our plan for the first day of W.E.B.

The first day of W.E.B was fun but kind of disorganized. None of the
groups got done with either activity. When the second W.E.B. day came
along we all thought it would be a little better. Then it took a little while for the
kids to find their group. And by the time we got seated we only had about 10
minutes to do everything. We hope next week is a little more organized.

First week by Braylissa

The first week of school was busy and different. The first thing that was different is that the
doors didn’t open until 7:10 this year instead of 7:00 o'clock. Walking into the school was a little
scary, there were a lot of kids walking around looking a little lost. As a WEB leader this year it was
my job to help them find their locker and help them open it, that is also a new thing I did this year.
After the bell rang at 7:30, I went to homeroom, which was another difference that we had this
year.
Another thing that is different this year is math. There are 3 math classes you can take/be
chose to take. There’s advanced math, algebra 1, and regular math. Advanced math is just
a faster type of math and regular math is slower. Algebra 1 is 3 types of maths put together.
Another difference is that we get out at 2:30 everyday instead of 2:27 and we get out at 2:30
on Wednesday’s too instead of 1:27.

This year by Addy

What I’m excited for this year is sports. Because in
6th grade you don’t really get to do anything. In 7th
you get to do Basketball, volleyball, wrestling, cross
country, and track,. I’m trying out for volleyball right
now and will try out for basketball in the future. We
also can apply to be in WEB at the end of the year
and, in 8th grade can ask to be a football manager.
I’m excited for what this year has and will be sad
when it ends

Grading System by Tanya

The grading system was very different this year. They
changed it to where tests are 60% of our grade and our
class work is 40%. So if your really good at worksheets
then your grades are going to do bad but if your bad at
test it will help your grades. So you have to put your best
effort into both.

Gyms grading system has changed too. Also dress
out rules are different, you can’t wear the same shoes for
gym as you did for school. Also boys have to have their
name on the front of their shirts and girls have to have
theirs on the back. Lastly everyone’s gym shirts have to
be white or gray. If you don’t dress out you have to this
activity that’s not fun and then walk the rest of the hour
instead of going to a buddy room like last year.

First Day by Katie B.

The first day of school so far has been awesome! When I woke up, I jumped out of bed and
ran to get ready! It was fun to see all of my friends, I had missed them over the break! Not to
mention seeing all the new teachers! I put all my stuff in my locker and got into homeroom
and found my seat as soon as possible. We got given puzzles and they were so hard! They
teacher helped us and we all got starbursts.
I then went to health and we got introduced to what will happen in health and what will change.
I got to sit with one of my friends and we even got to be a group! We were forest green! We
then went to hang out with Mrs. Travis who is really cool! I got to deliver items to teachers and
help with Ipads which will hopefully be here by Monday!

READY TO GO....by Kathy Travis

The summer flew by but I am so excited to get started this year.  I received an honor at the back to school teacher meeting for my 25 years of service.  My biggest hope that in all my years I have left "footprints" .  I was also recognized for being the teacher of the quarter from last year.  As I got my award at the board meeting, one of my former students was also receiving that award for her building.  That makes me proud.  As I looked around the room yesterday at our back to school meeting, I noticed that several students were back teaching in this district.  ESSD is a great place to be as a teacher and a student!

I am excited about the new administration.  Ben Rubey is our Principal with Kacie Pennington Ambrose and Doug Baker as Assistant Principals.  Mr. Mason returned as counselor but we have added Kelsey Shook as a counselor.  Our staff basically remained the same with 3 new teachers added to include Heather Taylor in sixth grade, Joel Mathews in seventh grade social studies, and Courtney Mayle in eighth grade.  #esmsbestyearever

I am super excited for Techsperts and WEB.  These are two programs I am proud to be a part of!!!  The kids work hard and support our school.  Look for announcements and information about both throughout the year!

Okay TIGERS....Let's get this started in here!  See you in the morning!
