The idea of giving each
student their own device is good, but I think that there are some flaws in the
way that we are doing it at our school. For example, I believe that if the
school is going to pay for an iPad they may as well get all of the students a laptop.
A laptop is much more school compatible because it has Microsoft Office. Also,
a laptop has USB ports so students can print off their work and put their
documents on a flash drive.
Most of the seventh and
eighth grade students would agree that is slightly unfair for sixth grade
students to be the only ones to get the benefits of having their own devices
for school. Most of the older students who do work on the computers in school
would benefit more from the devices than the sixth grade students who primarily
use them only to complete assignments online. For example, my design and
modeling class allows us to use the same website we use in class to turn in
assignments and finish them at home. I think that the school should have waited
until they could give all middle and high school students devices.
