I feel cell phones and technology should be allowed for
students to use in higher grades. I think the roll out of iPads to 6th
grade could be a step to a more technological education. I think the students
with technology would find it very useful for many reasons. They could use it
to research or find answers to a problem they don’t understand that the
teacher’s explanation was not satisfactory. Also, it would mean easier
communication in the case of emergencies and teachers could update students a
lot faster with services such as “Remind 101” especially because students would
see it soon after it is sent.
However, the
allowance of technology use in school would certainly not go without issue.
Students would definitely use them inappropriately both in content and time. To
combat this, teachers could maybe set certain times that technology could be
used and could confiscate it when not used in said time. Students would also
probably break their devices in school more often and some may even be silly
enough to seek compensation for their broken device. So the school would have
to use a “bring device at your own risk “policy. Of course, these are only a
few of the problems with allowing students this freedom. No matter how many
rules are used, many students still aren’t mature enough. Fortunately, the high
school allows technology usage so soon enough my class can use our devices.
