Squirrels
By Collin Hurshman
Squirrels are a mammalians that are
both adorable and clever. Squirrels are
indigenous to North America, Eurasia and Africa. These cute little climbing
critters enjoy nuts because there little bodies can’t digest cellulose.
Therefore, they eat foods with lots of carbs, protein, and fat. However, they
don’t rely solely on nuts, they also enjoy seeds, conifer cones, fruits, fungi,
and some green vegetation, and in dire times, some squirrels eat meat.
When
squirrels reproduce they make the cutest little babies. These babies, however,
are born without: fur, teeth, as well as being blind. Squirrels breed a couple
times a year and give birth to a varied number of babies. The pregnancy lasts a
meager 3 to 6 weeks. There are many types of squirrels. The Eastern Grey
Squirrel, the type native to Missouri, grow to be around 17-20 inches.
