How being a
Learning Commons Helper has Changed Throughout the Years
Being a
office/library helper my 6th grade year, and now a learning commons
helper for my 8th grade year, I really know how the job has changed.
There are so many differences this year compared to helping out in the past.
My 6th
grade year I did a lot for the office, like run around SLC folders like crazy
because there were 10 to 12 kids getting in trouble. Occasionally, I would
shelve a few books on the cart, and check out a class(which was intimidating
when they were so much bigger than me), but the Library was more of where I
went when I didn’t have to run around to collect work for the kids that got in
trouble.
This year,
so far, is a lot different in the fact that I’ve checked out so many classes,
and know every inch and corner of the Learning Commons. There is SOOO much more
technology this year in the learning commons to not only help kids with, but
fix! I don’t have to go deliver office messages or SLC folders anymore, since
there are office helpers for that. I get to do fun things like I’m doing right
now, like writing blogs, helping plan our fancy book fairs, getting kids
interested about reading, and planning contests. I love getting kids excited
about reading!
Being a
learning commons helper for an hour of the day is so fun! If you keep up good
behavior and work very hard on your reading and writing skills, maybe you too
can be a learning commons helper! I know that if you work hard, you can have a
blast being one of the multiple learning commons helpers!
