After taking a survey to find career areas I
may be interested in, I found that a good path to follow would be stem, or
Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Mechanical engineering is
the discipline I have been considering for a while now, so this result only
supports my consideration to become a mechanical engineer.
So
what do mechanical engineers do? It is a mechanical engineers job to design,
build, and test thermal and mechanical devices. Mechanical engineers usually do
this in an office setting but sometimes they have work in the field. Most jobs
for these engineers require a bachelor’s degree. A mechanical engineer who does
public service must be a licensed by the government. Mechanical engineers have
a median annual pay of $80,580. The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates a 5%
increase of employment of these engineers from 2012 to 2022. This is
unfortunately slow, but I speculate that as our world continues to develop,
these engineers will become more necessary and thus more common.
