Bullying

Bullying
By: Isabelle Sears
I personally think that when there is, cyber, verbal, and physical bullying in school, or brought into school it should be handled by an adult no matter what it is because a kid could try to self-harm themselves, or harm others that come into contact with them. Yes some bullying could be childish or a joke to some people but it’s not okay to the people that can’t help themselves.
Some people bully other kids just for attention. Or they just do it because it gives them a reason to be, “one of the cool kids.” We should try really hard in school and on line to try to band bullying. I know that sounds hard but I think we could do it if we tried hard enough.

I think that instead the iPads they should have laptops or surfaces. One reason we should have gotten laptops is we it is a lot harder to type on iPads. Also you would not have to worry about them downloading inappropriate things on their devices. There are a couple of downfalls to having laptops as well. Laptops are bulkier and weigh more.
One reason I think we should have gotten Surfaces is they are much more diverse and can be used as laptops or tablets. Yes you can buy key boards for IPads but do IPads have windows, no.  Surfaces can get expensive but I still think it would be a benefit.

I think the rollout of the Ipads to 6th graders is a silly way to implement technology into our education system. I feel this way for a couple reasons. One is that I doubt the 6th graders will be responsible with them. The other is I doubt they will be very useful to students.
I say the 6th graders can’t be responsible with the Ipads because it seems they can hardly handle their own technology. If you walk outside after school, you will see lots of broken phones. I foresee many broken Ipads. Of course, the Ipads have better cases than many students use on their own devices. However, I still feel there will be many damaged devices. This could be combated with the insurance plan I assume the school has.
Even with the necessary precautions to the plan, I feel the Ipads won’t be very useful to students, except as a distraction. I don’t think a day goes by at school where no cell phones are confiscated. Clearly students like to use their devices with other purposes than education. If they have enough freedoms on the Ipads, they will use them improperly. Also, they don’t even have good keyboards, something necessary if teachers expect the Ipads to be used in a way students can’t use a phone. Then again, students may not have a phone or at least not a smartphone. Even then, though, there are probably enough Ipads in classrooms to provide for those people. I would prefer a laptop or similar device so I can at least type essays or similar projects. I don’t know why I should complain, though, because next year I can just use my phone

Student Breaks

Student Breaks
By: Topanga Lindaman
I believe that students should get more breaks at school. At lunch we have a little bit of freedom to eat with our friends, but we never have enough time, and we can’t have our phones out. I don’t think it’s fair, and nearly no students think it’s fair that the teachers can have their phones out and they get a whole hour to plan where they don’t have any students. We could have a “study hour” where we can study, get on our phones, or talk to friends, kind of like the teachers do.
I feel like it would benefit the students by taking a lot of weight off their shoulders. Many students get stressed with the amount of test or projects they have to do within a day. Having an hour to just relax would relieve the students of their stress and help them focus more throughout the day. It would also help the students prepare for test if they couldn’t the night before because they had stuff to do and it would reduce taking up class time to study.

Studying Tips

Studying Tips

Many students have trouble studying because they’re either to lazy or they get frustrated because they don’t use a method that works for them. Usually students study for only a couple of minutes and then give up because they think it is a waste of time. However, there are many different tips and tricks to help you study in a much quicker and easier way.
You must remember that everyone is different and not everyone’s brain functions in the same way. A good way to study is to review the information right after class while it is still fresh in your memory. This will help with studying later. You can even start out by studying the most important information. You can also listen to relaxing music. This has been tested and proven that it is easier to study while doing something you enjoy such as listening to music. The last thing is remember that if you are studying with a group, only study with people who are going to be focused. It is very easy to get off track if not everyone is paying attention. These are only several tips and not all of them will work for everyone. However, these are some of the most affective ones.

Cellphone Use

Cellphone use
Isabelle Sears

I personally think that we should be able to use our cellphones either when we are at lunch or when we have passing time. We should also be allowed to listen to music in class if we are doing independent work or we are having a test. It would help a lot more eighth graders out since we do not get IPads till next year as freshman. We also should be able to use our cellphones when we take notes in class. It would be more fair since the high school gets to use there’s depending on the class.
I believe that if some people abuse the rule then they should have that privilege taken away from them. Not everyone should have to suffer with not using their phone since one person ruined it. Now if there is any bullying going on while we are online at school then whoever joined in with it should have a pretty big punishment like ISS or OSS.
