Now that the book fair is over, it’s easier to see how much
work we’ve put in. As a class, we’ve grown closer and it’s been easier to work
together. I remember at the beginning of the year, we hardly knew each other,
and it was difficult for us to work together. We each kind of worked in our own
groups on independent projects, and rarely ever spoke. When we got the
assignment to work on the book fair, we eventually started working, becoming
more and more of a team. We made the videos; we made the posters, the
decorations. What I think really gave us the extra kick was the contest. I’m
sure you’ve all heard of the contest in which we can win a visit from Brandon
Mull and win 2,000 scholastic dollars. That was sort of the turning point for
us. The omniscient fact that we could get a little more than what we signed up
for, that made us work a lot harder. When the actual book fair arrived, we
surpassed all of our goals by a longshot. Unlike many other classes, this class
has given me a great sense of accomplishment. I feel like we’ve really given
back to the community with All for Books,
like we’ve really made a difference in the lives of these kids. We’ve given
them books, literature. We’ve given them power. This is probably the only class
I’ve taken that’ll allow me to look back, and know that we made a
difference.
