Book Fair by Nolan Greim
Bookfair
Doors
Each techspert group put up a already known pirate on a door as well as facts about it.
The first one is Captain Hornigold it has picture of him like all of them will, facts about him like when he died, when he was born, and his personal traits and a summary.
The second one (mine) is Captain Hook. With the three facts of his enemy, his
first inmate, and the name of his ship.
The next is Sir Henry Morgan. It has four pictures of him in different settings
and a picture of his ship. Some facts are when he died, his years active, his wife's name, and several others.
Next is Pegleg, it has a fairly sized introduction/summary of him.
Then it's Jack Sparrow. It has of course fun facts, however unlike the others it
has things that he dose that would be weird if you them.
Lastly is Jean Fleury. It has to facts where he was born and where and when
he died. It also has a short summary about him.

Learning Commons Update by Kathy Travis
It is so hard to believe that it is November. Things are moving along in the Learning Commons. The book genre process is coming along. The books have been separated and tagged. Still working on getting it all in the computer properly. Mrs. Abele, our former art teacher, has created signs for our genres. They are perfect and amazing! She is so creative and has always been a big supporter of the Learning Commons.
Book fair preparation is in full swing. We named our book fair Read Ahoy Where Books Are Your Treasure! Love that! We are making a video arrrghcade. Each team of techsperts are making a video game for our family parrrghty night. The winners will get a prize. Teachers are creating pirate/ship flags and are decorating the doors of their classrooms to our theme. My teachers are very competitive so this should be fun. My techsperts are decorating bulletin boards and doors in the LC. The bulletin boards are in the pirate theme and doors are about particular pirates and their history. We are raising money for ALL FOR BOOKS to give books to the needy kids of Excelsior Springs. Our goal is $550. The fair will run from December 1-9. Our family parrrghty night will be Tuesday, December 6 from 4-6:30 pm. Plan to make a stop by to see us during our book fair so you can see all the creative things we are doing.
We are also working on a video project with Mr. Ganzer's Career Center students. We are entering a contest that could win us enough money to get our iPod touches, 360 camera and our 3D pens. We are excited for this opportunity to have a PBL that includes another building.
The LC has so many opportunities for different learning. We have the Spheros. Thanks to GoSphero who replaced our non-working devices. Spheros are robots that can be programmed or done activities. We also have add Bloxels to our space. Bloxels allow the students to create video games. We have purchased Breakout Boxes. They have not arrived yet, but we are anxiously awaiting them to add to our learning. We were awarded a grant that allowed us to purchase 25 Google Cardboard devices. We now need to purchase devices to make those work. We are looking at iPod touches. We need to find funding for these. Our Innovations Lab is full of supplies to create, do electricity activities and more.
EXCITING things going on at ESMS!

Book Fair by Broc Dusek
This week all grades of techsperts have been making posters to put on doors in the Learning Commons. My hour of techsperts made one for Sir Henry Morgan. Our is not the best but we tried our hardest and I like ours. All the options were famous pirates that did something in history. I like Sir Henry Morgan the best, but the book fair is coming in 42 days. I am really excited. I hope it will be another good year at the book fair.

Electives by 7th hour Techsperts Kyra, Daelyn, Nolan, Dalton
The Elective Classes
The elective classes are sixth period through seventh period. These are classes that are not part of the core curriculum but are still beneficial to the student. Many of them are very fun.
Gym
Gym is a basic class that every student will take. We do have fun games that we play like tag and football. We also have sport units were we will have a tournament at the end of the sport were all of the teams will face off.
Band
In band you will learn how to play an instrument like a pro, core values, and team skills. Here at ESMS you can do brass, percussion and wind. You do have to purchase the instrument on your own but the outcome is worth it.
Musical Journeys
In musical journeys students will be able to create their own music, learn how rhythm and tempo can affect a piece of music, and how the production and selling process of music works.
Computers
In computers students will be able to use basic drag and drop coding, typing skills, and follow the class pace. The entire class is self directed meaning the student will work at his or her own pace to complete assignments by the due date.
Health
Health is a basic class that every student will take in their time at ESMS. Students will learn from proper hygiene, safety and fitness.
So these are the elective classes here at ESMS. They are available to all students and all these classes will have a positive effect and core values on the student for years to come.
